Performance Royalties for a Play
The rights holder for a play (generally the author or a rights agent acting on behalf of the author)
is entitled to
  • Restrict the performance of the play
  • Set a performance royalty fee for any performance of the play
Therefore
  • You can only perform a play if you have the permission of the rights holder.
(This applies to all organisations and to any play that takes place in front of an audience
other that plays performed purely for educational purposes, where the play forms part
of the educational curriculum of each member of the audience)
  • You have to obtain permission from the rights holder before you stage the play

It is good practice to apply for performance rights for a play...

  • Before you start rehearsals
  • Before you start publicising the show

... not least because the rights holder could legitimately refuse permission for you to stage the show!

You can apply for performance rights for the shows published by Lazy Bee Scripts
via our Buying Scripts Pages.
