There are many possible reasons for making a video.
The following describes the options from a Lazy Bee Scripts perspective.
(Other rights holders approach this in their own ways, frequently more restrictive!)
- A video recording of a stage show, with copies made for members of the cast
In this case, you need a Video Licence (and to pay a licence fee) for each copy
- A video recording made as part of an educational course
(Either the video is made in order to show a performance to an examiner or
the point of the course is to make a video of a script)
In this case, it is treated as a "Classroom performance" and there is no licence
fee, BUT
if additional copies are made for the participants or others for use outside the
course,
the a Video Licence fee will be incurred per
copy.
- A video of a script made for public showing
(either commercially or for an amateur "film club")
This incurs a royalty fee for each public screening and for each video copy sold.
The actual fee is a matter for negotiation.
If you are planning a video for public showing, please
contact us and explain your intentions!
- A video to be shown on the Internet (YouTube and the like)
Before uploading a video to the Internet, please
contact us and explain your intentions!
(A video of a play is a use of copyrighted material. The rights holder may
charge a fee!)
- A video broadcast on a TV station (including, but not limited to, satelite, cable
and
video-on-demand)
This is treated in the same way as a public screening - that is to say, it incurs
a royalty fee
for each broadcast. If you are planning to broadcast a video of a show for
which
Lazy Bee Scripts holds the rights, then please contact us first to arrange the appropriate
royalty fee.
In all cases, from the Lazy Bee Scripts buying scripts
page, you will need
- "Master Scripts for Copying" or "A Performance set of scripts"
