Gerald P. MurphyWriter of musical plays for schools |
| Although he was the only one in his family to avoid music lessons like an outbreak of ebola, Gerald Murphy still insists he can write musical comedies. In fact, his lack of musical training probably helped. "The rest of them had to practice for hours when they were young, consequently growing up to hate anything to do with music. Since I had no lessons, I learned to play many instruments, all of them poorly, but with great enthusiasm." |
| He currently has three musicals on the Lazy Bee Scripts site, Romeo
Loves Juliet, which has been produced in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland, Botswana,
Saudi Arabia, Paraguay, and Argentina, Drama Club Must Die,
and Little Bigfoot, meant for youth performances (and audiences).
His other shows include Olivia Twist, which has been performed in US and Canadian schools. Murphy credits the success of Romeo Loves Juliet to the incredibly expensive performance rights for West Side Story. ' Simply put, my show is a much cheaper theft of Shakespeare's show. Also, it has a happy ending without all those dead bodies befouling the stage during the last act. |
| After an argument with his darling wife, Nicole, the original picture of Gerald Murphy has been replaced with the one of the backyard banjo player, above, although the one he would have preferred was this one, with added intellectualosity... |
