| Jon Dwyer took six years off from being a science teacher to look after his two daughters through their pre-school
years. During that time, his wife and daughters were involved with plays and pantomime at Wing in Buckinghamshire,
both girls having made their stage debut at the age of two, with Jon supporting from the wings. His first foray
into writing came after seeing his family in a poorly scripted pantomime. (Like many writers, his first inspiration
was "I could do better".) The result was Jon's script for Sleeping Beauty, first performed by Wing Players and subsequently published by Lazy Bee Scripts.
The pantomime, combines the traditional elements of British pantomime - the magic of a fairy story, singing, dancing,
slapstick and downright mayhem. The show is held together by Fixit, the palace jester - a role originally played
by a keen improviser who managed to tell different jokes on every night of the performance. (For less confident
jesters, a full set of jokes are supplied within the script.) |
