Although he was the only one in his family to avoid music lessons like an outbreak of ebola, Gerald Murphy still insists he can write musical comedies. In fact, his lack of musical training probably helped. 'The rest of them had to practice for hours when they were young, consequently growing up to hate anything to do with music. Since I had no lessons, I learned to play many instruments, all of them poorly, but with great enthusiasm.'
His plays and musicals have been performed worldwide (not every country you can think of, but at least in Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, India, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey, the United States and United Kingdom).
Murphy credits the success of Romeo Loves Juliet to the incredibly expensive performance rights for West Side Story. ' Simply put, my show is a much cheaper theft of Shakespeare's show. Also, it has a happy ending without all those dead bodies befouling the stage during the last act.'

After an argument with his darling wife, Nicole, the original picture of Gerald Murphy has been replaced with the one of the backyard banjo player, above, although the one he would have preferred was this one, with added intellectualosity...
