British Pantomime

"British" because in Europe and the US, pantomime is a form of mime - i.e. silent theatre. British panto is anything but silent, frequently involving shouting by the audience!

It's a format of comic family entertainment, usually involving some character stereotypes, particularly a pantomime dame (a man playing a comical middle-aged lady) and a principal boy (a girl playing the hero). Being family entertainment, there is often a range of types of humour. This can include innuendo (though should not include open vulgarity), most of which goes over the heads of the younger children in the audience. (Where this is the case, we have used a "PG" rating. The more innocent pantomimes are rated "U".)
