Videos of Performances
| What's it all about? | |
| Many groups want to video their shows. However, in terms of copyright law, a video of a performance is treated in the same way as a performance. Each copy of the video requires the permission of the copyright holder (usually obtained via a rights administrator, such as Lazy Bee Scripts). | |
| Many "rights administrators" do not allow videos of their shows at all. | |
| Lazy Bee Scripts will issue licences for videos to be made, but it charges a royalty fee for each video or video copy. | |
| Any video of a show made without a licence constitutes a breach of copyright. (This applies to all methods of capturing "motion pictures".) | |
| A Single Video of an Amateur Performance | |
| If you purchase performance rights for amateur performance of a show from Lazy Bee Scripts, then you are automatically licensed to make one (and only one) video of the show. This is included in the performance licence fee. There is no extra charge. This does not permit you to make copies of that video. Copies count as additional videos and incur a royalty charge. | |
| Additional Videos (including copies of an original video) | |
| Additional videos of amateur shows incur a royalty fee. You can pay the royalty fee by purchasing "video licences". | |
| The royalty fee is charged for each video (each copy of the video) | |
| How much does it cost? | |
| We charge a fixed per copy fee for videos, but the fee depends on the script (because we charge less for a two minute sketch than we do for a two hour musical). | |
| What about videos of professional shows, or other cases not covered above? | |
| The on-line video licence system is designed to cope with the majority case - amateur theatre groups and schools making videos of their own performances. | |
| Other cases not covered by the on-line system include | |
|
|
| For any of these cases, please before making the video and explain what you are intending to do. Lazy Bee Scripts will then, at its discretion, offer terms for a specific licence. | |
