Working in the Following Genre:
Who am I?
I have been writing for over 10 years now, having attended the Faber Academy in 2014 and a scriptwriting course with the National Centre for Writing in 2021. Published books to date include the Gaia trilogy (Bloodhound Books), a series of James Bond-like thrillers set during a world war for water, and the London Falling trilogy (Tiny Tree Children’s Books), a Harry Potter meets 1984 set of sci-fi adventures set in the future.
What sort of scripts do I write?
I write pantomimes with my award-winning, picture-book writing wife, Fiona Barker. We like to come up with original stories rather than re-work an old classic to keep the audience guessing. But we make sure our scripts have all the traditional elements of a panto so the audience isn’t disappointed. We work on the plot together, then split the writing, with Fiona using her skills to come up with amazing rhyming couplets and I let my mad-cap humour loose on the puns and double-entendres. Everything is family friendly and heaps of fun!
Reviews for Ba Ba Land
"Thursday, the 11th of January 2024, saw the Quince Players of Sunninghill receiving a great ovation at the end of a heart-warming, lively performance of a new pantomime, “Ba Ba Land”, written by two of their long-standing members, David and Fiona Barker, with a new storyline based on nursery rhyme characters. Directed by Sarah Matthews with musical director Angela McCarthy, a fun-filled, laugh-a-minute, joyful evening sent the audience home with smiles on their faces and songs in their hearts. A thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining evening which amply maintained this company’s great reputation."
"Just had the absolute pleasure of attending the opening night of Ba Ba Land. Congratulations to everyone on a fabulous show. One of the best panto scripts you’ll ever hear (and a world debut!), great performances, wonderful live music & lots of laughs."
