A Tale of a Nail by Nicholas Richards
Performance by Central High School finished as runner-up in the Maine Principals Association drama competition 2014

Whilst Mr Gauche, for example, is given a gender, it isn't really key to the plot! Many of the characters, are, when all's said and done, anthropomorphic personifications of cells and micro-organisms.

StyleOne act play set in the imagination of a character fighting off an infection, where the protagonists - germs and blood cells - act-out their roles. Fantasy, but with a lot of educational value.
SynopsisWhen Mr Gauche accidentally hammers a nail through his thumb, he only wants medical help from the Doctor, but he gets a thorough lesson in the body's defence mechanisms anyway. A musical version is available here.

Their very close relationship stands up to the stresses and strains involved and they are also able to help Ben's boyfriend Max deal with his homophobic parents. Ultimately Ben has to take drastic steps to give Carol an optimistic future.

They all have to deal with the horror in their own way and they take the plot along through intermittent narration and action.
