A Load of Rubbish - Play by Sue Gordon
Performance by Thurso Junior Players, Winner of SCDA One Act Play Festival Highland Division Intermediate Section, 2007

The characters described as 'a few small pieces of fruit and veg' play a chorus role. Their numbers are very flexible. The characters are inanimate objects, so gender is flexible!

SynopsisNoah's family are shocked when the weather forecaster announces the imminent arrival of something called 'rain'. A visit from the Archangel Michael clears things up for Noah, but leaves him with the task of building an Ark - and convincing the animals to come onboard.

Lord of the Mince Pies by Ashley Smith

SynopsisAn outbreak of Tebbit's Disease (which turns teachers insane and mean) coincides with a heavy fall of snow, cutting off St Hippocampus' school (from the village of Chipping King Edwards). The teachers' nerves are at breaking point, supplies are low and now the roads are cut off by snow! What will the teachers do for food?
(If you need a clue, it is likely that the teachers are familiar with Jonathan Swift's 'A Modest Proposal'...)

SynopsisOne day Sun Wen's horse runs away, leaving the lady and her son, Sun Jun, to plow the field alone. She doesn't accept this as a misfortune, however, and soon enough the horse returns with a mate. But she's not convinced this is a blessing either...

Eventually they give a fateful prediction to Macbeth, who likes the idea of being the new king enough to dispatch the old one. Much murder and wringing of hands ensues. All this and a mad Scottish doctor. The bard will be spinning in his grave!

It seems a case of so near yet so far as Sponaldo is offered the job but on condition that he has an assistant. Auditions to find one only succeed in getting him robbed of the money that the Queen has paid him as an advance and seeing the job handed over to the dubious Stupendo the Magnificent and his highly decorative assistant, Chantalle. Can Sponaldo and Celestena win through?

Mam, There's a Spaceship in Our Backyard by Sarah Cowan
