Dick Whittington [Version 11] by James Barry
Nominated for Best Script in the Great British Panto Awards 2020

SynopsisDick Whittington falls for Alice Fitzwarren and becomes a proxy in Fairy Bow Bells' war with King Rat. Having met with a cat and some success working for Alderman Fitzwarren, Dick is taken on a sea voyage with Captain Horatio Barnacle (who bears a striking resemblance to Alderman Fitzwarren) and, after a shipwreck, meets the Sultan of Morocco (who bears a striking resemblance to Alderman Fitzwarren).

Jack and the Beanstalk [Version 4] by James Barry

SynopsisThe kingdom is in thrall to Giant Plunder (an evil Ogre) and his wife. Poor Dame Trott and her sons Jack and Silly Billy are too poor to pay the rent. Forced to sell their family cow, Jack and Bill manage to exchange it for a mere handful of beans. A giant beanstalk ensues, and a raid on the Ogre's castle in the sky. Heroism and silliness abound!

Peter Pan (The Panto) by James Barry

Characters include pirates, redskins, lost boys, mermaids, a rollerskating fairy and, of course, the crocodile. (This being a pantomime, there's a pantomime dame - in this case it's Tiger Lily.) Very flexible numbers, with choruses of various sorts.

StyleJames Barry's full-length British pantomime treatment of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Whilst it's done in a modern panto style, the story remains faithful to the original. Includes flying sequences.
SynopsisPeter Pan and Tinkerbell the fairy lead Wendy Darling and her brothers on an adventure to Neverland, leading to the final showdown with Peter's enemy, Captain Hook (and Hook's enemy, the crocodile).
Note that as with all adaptations of Peter Pan, we pay half the author's royalties to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Puss in Boots (Small Cast) by James Barry
RolesMinimum Male roles = 3. Minimum Female roles = 2. Minimum total with doubling = 5. Minimum total without doubling = 6. No chorus. King can double as the Ogre. We assume that Harry (the hero) is played by a man and puss is played by a woman. (But this is pantomime, so make your own mind up!)

SynopsisHarry, the miller's youngest son, inherits the magical talking cat (who refuses to answer to 'Tiddles'). Harry falls for the princess, but to win her hand, he has to confront the ogre in a battle of magical transformations.

Robinson Crusoe - The Truth by James Barry

SynopsisRobinson Crusoe takes a job on a ship, not realising that the captain is a wicked pirate, seeking treasure. Inevitably, they are shipwrecked, but just when Robinson thinks he's alone on a desert island, his mother and sweetheart come to the rescue.

StyleBritish pantomime - lots of verbal and visual jokes.
SynopsisCarabosse, the wicked witch, sentences the young Princess Aurora to death by spinning wheel, but the good Fairy Sweetheart commutes this to a long boring sleep - a sleep from which the Princess can only be woken by a kiss from her true love. Matters are complicated somewhat by the arrival of a fire breathing dragon.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs [Version 3] by James Barry

RolesMinimum Male roles = 1. Minimum Female roles = 4. Minimum total with doubling = 16. Minimum total without doubling = 18. Chorus. The dwarfs are nominally male, but probably played by children. It's a pantomime, so make your own mind up about who plays Prince Valiant and Clarissa the Cook.
