Hansel and Gretel - A Short Musical by Gerald P. Murphy
RolesMinimum Male roles = 2. Minimum Female roles = 4. Minimum total with doubling = 9. Minimum total without doubling = 21. No chorus. Characters include humans, birds, rodents, dogs and four wheels (although we never get to hear the singing of the tyres!)

MusicSheet music for four original songs is supplied with the Producer's copy of the script.
StyleA modern version of the Grimm Brothers' story told as a verse play with four songs. Simple props, no specific set requirements. (A version without music is also available.)
SynopsisIn an update to the original fable, Hansel and Gretel's parents want to get rid of them, not because the family is poor, but because the parents are selfish. This leads to the encounter with the witch with the confectionary cottage.

StyleShort rhyming play. This approaches the border of the British pantomime genre. (Make you own mind up on that point!)
SynopsisA short rhyming play that preserves the villainous role of the father, but takes extreme liberties with other parts of the original tale, casting Hansel and Gretel in a less-than-favourable light.

Hunting Death by Nicholas Richards
RolesMinimum Male roles = 5. Minimum Female roles = 0. Minimum total with doubling = 5. Minimum total without doubling = 8. Chorus. The narrator's role could be split amongst several actors. There are opening and closing choruses which could be performed by the ensemble or by additional actors/singers.
Run TimeAround 25 minutes. [Estimated!] (The estimated run time assumes the music; without music it could be performed in 12 minutes.)
MusicThe music is designed to run continuously, so there is one 25-minute score. (It is divided into sections for rehearsal purposes.)
StyleA short musical play, retelling the Pardoner's Tale from the Canterbury Tales. (Could also be performed as a verse play without the music.)
SynopsisThis drama recounts the story of three young men who bestir themselves from their wine-sodden lives to hunt and kill Death, but instead fall victim to him through greed and treachery.

Jason and the Golden Fleece by Dominique Vaughan

The Journey of the Magi [Verse] by Richard Coleman
RolesMinimum Male roles = 6. Minimum Female roles = 2. Minimum total with doubling = 19. Minimum total without doubling = 21. No chorus. There are options to double some parts, to split the narrator's role amongst multiple players and to add a non-speaking chorus.
The characters include a camel.

A Journey to Oz by Richard Coleman

StyleRhyming (non-musical) version of L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz. Multiple locations, but can be staged as simply as necessary!
SynopsisA tornado plucks Dorothy Gale from Kansas and drops her and, more significantly (from the perspective of a tendancy to squish), her house, on top of a despised witch. Two quests follow (as do a scarecrow, a tin man and a lion), before she is able to return home.

Kids in Lurve by Bill Siviter
RolesMinimum Male roles = 4. Minimum Female roles = 3. Minimum total with doubling = 8. Minimum total without doubling = 15. No chorus. Lots of flexibility for either doubling characters or splitting the narrator's role amongst several actors.

SynopsisBianca is sweet and pretty. All the lads fancy her. But standing in the way, there's Bianca's acid-tongued sister, Kate, and who can tame Kate?
Well, since there aren't many lads called Petruchio these days, the modern-day volunteer is Shane.
The course of true love never did run smooth (but that's another story).

Kids in Tights - The Musical by Bill Siviter with Music by Jonny Ardern
RolesMinimum Male roles = 6. Minimum Female roles = 3. Minimum total with doubling = 12. Minimum total without doubling = 12. No chorus. Whilst there isn't a formal requirement for a chorus, there is plenty of opportunity for adding Montagues, Capulets and ball guests.

StyleRomeo and Juliet told, as an irreverent verse play, by the protagonists and by narrators. A good introduction to Shakespeare's story! (The specified run-time is the minimum - extending the ball and the fight will add time!)
SynopsisShakespeare's Romeo and Juliet condensed into a short verse play for kids, then lengthened because everyone gets so excited that they need to sing about it.
Boy meets girl, love overcomes the family feud - but only for the lovers. Swordplay turns rivals into kebabs. Mistakes are made and the heroes die. (You see, it's a soppy love story.)
