Synopsis:
John Fisher is an ambitious reporter, despatched to the darkest depths of the west country to investigate smuggling. Where better to start than the atmospheric 'Smuggler's Rest' inn, despite the landlady's assurances that there are no smugglers? The constant attentions of Captain Elwood of His Majesty's Revenue Service persuade John that there are indeed rum goings-on to look into. John and Lucy, the landlady's daughter, find themselves caught between the determined excise men and the ruthless smugglers with only the questionable assistance of the ghost of Old Granny Steggles to aid them.
