Synopsis:
It is 1987. Coal miner Les Varley and his family are typical of the many mining families of North Nottinghamshire. Les and his wife Rita's slow drift apart is accelerated by conflicts over their daughter's sex life and their son's criminal activities. Then comes the news that Les is trapped in an underground roof fall. His family, the neighbours and the whole village can only wait.
